What is Li-Fi?

Li-Fi

We all know the scientist Thomas Alva Edison. It is said that he was the first to light the electric lamp in our house by removing the darkness. But he may not have known that this lamp would be used not only to illuminate the house, but also to transmit information one day. Yes reader, data can be exchanged via artificial satellite using LED or light emitting diode (the light emitting diode) lamp on computer, laptop, even mobile phone. The new technology is called Li-Fi, which will exchange data 100 times faster than wireless Wi-Fi networks.

What is Li-Fi?

Harold Hass, a scientist at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, was the first to invent the Li-Fi technology in 2011. It uses visible light waves as a means of high-speed communication. Just as high-speed signal lamps send signals on and off very quickly, so this technology can transmit information in the language of binary code. Experiments have shown that this technology can transmit up to 224 gigabytes of data per second, while the maximum speed of Wi-Fi is about 600 megabytes per second.

In a recent interview, Hass said, "Putting a small microchip with each lamp will not only provide light but also wireless information transmission."

He also said that the on-off function of the lamp would be so fast that it would be impossible for people to identify it separately and it would not be annoying even for the eyes.

Already this new Li-Fi technology is starting to be admired worldwide. These, for example, are some of the dolls that Walt Disney has started to create, which will work on Li-Fi technology. In addition, a recent study found that by 2019, the world will need 24.3 excise data per month, which is impossible to provide with the current wireless connection. Therefore, experts advise to use Li-Fi technology to reduce this additional pressure to increase the use of the Internet.

While Li-Fi technology has many advantages, it also has some limitations. For example, light cannot penetrate any wall. So the information (data) transmitted through light is much safer. Again, it is true that the customer will be disconnected from the Internet connection as soon as he leaves the house. This is a limitation of this technology. With this in mind, we can say for sure that we can benefit a lot more by using Li-Fi technology than Wi-Fi.
